Celebrity Thread Lifts: Kendall Jenner, Sarah Ferguson & More

PRESIDENT OF EMPIRE MEDICAL TRAININGOnce upon a time, speculation about celebrities’ cosmetic “work” focused entirely on surgical facelifts — who’d gotten one, when, and how good they looked afterward.
Then came Botox®, a first-of-its-kind injectable cosmetic treatment that didn’t require patients to go under the knife. The question became: “Botox or facelift?”
Fast forward to today and Botox is just the beginning. From dermal fillers to chemical peels to microdermabrasion, celebrities — and regular people too — have a whole slew of minimally invasive cosmetic treatments to choose from. Most mix and match; one isn’t enough.
The latest celebrity cosmetic craze is the brow thread lift. Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson and many others are suspected of having this minimally invasive procedure done — to flatten and define the brow while boosting the apparent volume of the eyes.
Celebrities Who’ve (Allegedly) Had Thread Lifts
Have any of your favorite celebrities gotten a brow lift? Depends who you’re watching, but there’s a good chance at least one of your faves has.
Cosmetic experts suspect that these famous ladies have all had eye thread lifts in the past few years:
- Kendall Jenner
- Kylie Jenner
- Bella Hadid (whose look is responsible for the growing popularity of the cat eye thread lift)
- Gwyneth Paltrow
- Sarah Ferguson
- Megan Fox
- Ariana Grande
To be fair, many of these celebrities (and others) deny that they’ve had cosmetic work done. Kendall Jenner’s thread lift is anything but, she says — makeup and skin care are responsible.
Cosmetic medicine experts are skeptical, but all we can do is take celebs’ word for it. It’s their right not to share medical information.
Why Get a Thread Lift?
Why are so many celebs (allegedly) pursuing this alternative to plastic surgery? Because minimally invasive brow lifting procedures have some clear benefits:
- Boosting collagen production in the treatment area, adding volume
- Adding definition to the brow line
- Increasing the apparent size of the eyes
- Achieving specific effects, like the almond-shaped “cat eye” look
And thread lifts do all this without long, boring makeup routines.
Thread Lift Procedure: What to Expect
Think a brow lift could be the right cosmetic procedure for you? While it’s not as big a commitment as plastic surgery, you’ll still want to know what to expect (and how to prepare) before your first procedure:
- An initial consultation that includes a basic medical history and patient questionnaire
- Treatment planning with your provider to determine the appropriate number and placement of threads
- An in-office lifting procedure that typically takes 30 to 60 minutes, including time for the local anesthetic to work
- One or more follow-up appointments to assess results and plan future treatments
If you like the results and want to maintain them, it’s recommended that you repeat the procedure every one to two years. You can repeat it even more often than that, but the results may not be as dramatic.
Is a Thread Lift Safe?
Just because celebrities do it doesn’t mean anyone else should. Celebs make questionable decisions all the time, after all.
Fortunately, getting a brow thread lift isn’t one of them. No cosmetic procedure is completely without risk, but a brow lift has far lower risk of side effects and complications than traditional plastic surgery. The risk is even lower for patients who work with board-certified plastic surgeons who’ve completed accredited thread lift training programs.
