PRESIDENT OF EMPIRE MEDICAL TRAININGOne of the most exciting facial treatments in years just hit the market. It’s quite literally the wave of the future in skincare treatment.
What is it? It’s Skinwave, a multidimensional skincare treatment using the latest in skin revitalization technology. Though decidedly new and different, Skinwave is simple enough for providers to learn to use in a single-day webinar, which might be why so many aestheticians are adding it to their service menu.

What Is Skinwave Treatment?
Skinwave is a new facial treatment system developed by Cartessa Aesthetics. It utilizes a process called hydradermabrasion to deliver nutrient- and antioxidant-rich solutions deep into the lower layers of the skin.
Skinwave’s proprietary aqua delivery system utilizes solutions with active ingredients including:
- Alpha hydroxy acid (AHA)
- Beta hydroxy acid (BHA)
- Glycolic acid
- Lactic acid
- Natural moisturizing factors (NMF) and plant extracts, including licorice root extract
- Hyaluronic acid
- Elemental hydrogen (H2)
These active ingredients help remove oxygen in the skin while gently exfoliating the treated area. A parallel extraction process helps remove dead skin, dirt, oily residues, and other undesirable materials to leave skin looking healthier, fresher, and younger.
Finally, the Skinwave system uses two small pieces of equipment to complement solution administration and exfoliation:
- A handheld electrical pulse device that opens pores and delivers specially formulated bursts of red and blue LED light.
- A handheld double lifting device that gently stimulates the skin and underlying muscles to achieve a tightening effect.
The Skinwave treatment process involves minimal discomfort. It can be completed in a single office visit, either on its own or as part of a larger aesthetics treatment package. There’s no recovery period; patients can resume normal activity as soon as they leave the clinic or spa.
Who Is Skinwave Treatment For?
Skinwave treatment is ideal for patients seeking minimally invasive or noninvasive cosmetic facial enhancement. Benefits include:
- Improving lymphatic circulation
- Removing dirt and dead skin cells from the top layers of the skin
- Reducing free oxygen in the lower layers of the skin
- Gently moisturizing and hydrating the treated area
- Stimulating collagen and elastin production
- Slowing the visible aging process by reducing drying effects of oxygen in the skin
Prospective Skinwave patients should undergo a basic patient intake procedure to confirm that they’re suitable candidates for treatment. There aren’t any specific contraindications for Skinwave treatment, but certain skin conditions or other health issues may complicate the treatment plan. In rare instances where a patient is contraindicated, alternative treatments may be available.
Is Skinwave Treatment Safe?
Skinwave treatment is not surgery and does not involve needlework. As a noninvasive procedure, it’s generally well-tolerated and regarded as safe for the majority of patients.
With that being said, Skinwave treatment should only be performed by experienced professionals with proper aesthetician certification and facial aesthetics training. This reduces the likelihood of post-treatment side effects, which can include redness or soreness around the treatment area. More serious complications haven’t been documented so far.
