PRESIDENT OF EMPIRE MEDICAL TRAININGJuvederm® is one of several brands of hyaluronic acid filler, the most popular type of dermal filler. Juvederm is used in a variety of cosmetic applications, such as the treatment of smile lines, nasolabial folds, and common signs of aging like fine lines and wrinkles.
As a temporary, low-risk alternative to plastic surgery and other more invasive cosmetic procedures, Juvederm is sought by patients who don’t want or need a permanent, irreversible solution to their aesthetic complaints. But that means regular follow-up treatments are needed to maintain results.
This leads prospective Juvederm patients to ask two important questions: how much Juvederm costs and how long they can expect results to last after each treatment.
Juvederm Treatment Costs
The cost of Juvederm and other dermal filler treatments is typically expressed in dollars per syringe.
Data from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons indicates that the average cost per syringe of Juvederm was $684 in 2020. A broader range that accounts for differences in formulation, procedure, and provider puts the cost per syringe between $400 and $800.
How Much Does a Single Juvederm Procedure Cost?
Juvederm treatment costs vary depending on:
- The type of procedure — many filler procedures require more than one syringe
- The specific areas of the face being treated — larger treatment areas and areas with deeper wrinkles or folds generally require more filler to achieve the desired results
- Who is performing the procedure — board-certified plastic surgeons and medical professionals who’ve undergone comprehensive dermal filler training may charge more per syringe, but the results speak for themselves
- The geographic area — pricing may be lower in regions with more practitioners due to competition
It’s common for practitioners to offer financing options that reduce the upfront cost of Juvederm treatment and spread the financial commitment out over several months.
How Long Juvederm Lasts
Like other FDA-approved hyaluronic acid filler treatments, Juvederm is a temporary, minimally invasive cosmetic procedure. Follow-up treatments may be needed to maintain the desired results over a period of years.
How long Juvederm lasts depends in part on the formulation used.
Formulations indicated for lip augmentation, like Juvederm Ultra XC and Volbella XC, generally last up to 12 months.
Formulations indicated to add volume to the cheeks or reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles, such as Juvederm XC and Juvederm Vollure XC, may last 18 to 24 months between follow-up treatments.
What to Expect From Juvederm Treatment
Like all hyaluronic acid fillers, Juvederm is an injectable gel administered using a high-gauge syringe. The procedure typically takes no more than an hour, including prep time. Recovery time is short, with many patients able to return to work on the day of treatment.
Juvederm’s side effects are generally mild and temporary. The most common include redness, itching, or swelling near the injection site. They should resolve within a week or less.
Juvederm’s results appear quickly, often on the day of treatment. They reach full effect when the post-injection swelling subsides.
How Much Do Follow-Up Juvederm Treatments Cost?
The effects of Juvederm begin to wane 6 to 12 months following treatment. At this point, patients may schedule touch-ups or follow-up treatments to regain the results they desire.
The cost of these follow-up treatments depends on their scope. Minor touch-up treatments require less filler material than full follow-ups and cost less as a result. To estimate the cost of full follow-ups, patients should use the first treatment as a guide.
