The USA and Botox® Sourced from Canada

Author

Dr. Stephen Cosentino

PRESIDENT OF EMPIRE MEDICAL TRAINING
It is a question that always comes up in our Empire Medical Training Botox workshops – “Is it okay to source Botox® from Canada for US patients?” The answer is no. It is not best practices! Illegally importing and purchasing foreign-sourced, and non-FDA approved Botox® for use in your reputable medical practice could lead to a felony conviction of 1-year in prison and up to a $100,000 fine. Convictions have already occurred, and prison and fines have been recorded. Access Authentic Botox® For physicians who believe this is the only way to buy discounted product. Not so. For access to Authentic Botox Cosmetic with $100 a vital discounts, we recommend signing up for easy access purchase plans provided to physicians through Allegan’s website, Physician Botox Cosmetic Account Set UP, or through another US based purchasing organization. Liabilities Issues Please be careful. Be sure to source your Botox® only through proper supply channels that are reputable US-based sources. It's the law. Under the 2015 Drug Supply Chain Security Act, all health care providers who dispense or administer prescription drugs to patients are required to purchase their prescription drug products only from authorized trading partners licensed by or registered with the state or federal government, as applicable. Don’t Be Mislead We find it unthinkable that physicians could possibly be misled to believe that sourced, non-FDA approved Botox® for patient use is acceptable, but this is happening. It is important to note, therefore, that in additional to this being illegal, it is also unethical to subject patients to a product that comes from a source outside of the US regulated supply chain where there is uncertainty to the process of monitoring the quality of manufacture, storage, or purity of the ingredients, which could lead to adverse medical events. Additionally, using non-FDA approved Botox® you could result in the loss of your medical malpractice insurance coverage. Botox® and Botox® Cosmetic are trademarks of Allergan, Inc.
