What's the Cost of Hyaluronidase?

Injectable hyaluronic acid fillers (HA) don’t last forever. But sometimes you can’t wait for their effects to dissipate.

If you’re not satisfied with your HA filler results, hyaluronidase can help. Hyaluronidase is an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid. It can reverse undesirable filler results and reduce or eliminate nodules that sometimes form after filler treatment.

If you need hyaluronidase treatment, you’re probably wondering what it’ll cost. Here’s what you should know.

What’s the Cost of Hyaluronidase?

The cost of hyaluronidase treatment ranges between $100 to $1,500, depending on the amount needed and the extent of the treatment area. Most patients spend between $300 and $600 to achieve the results they desire.

Importantly, reputable HA injectors generally provide hyaluronidase injections free of charge to patients who aren’t happy with their results. If you’re working with the same injector, you shouldn’t have to pay out of pocket. However, if you had a bad experience with that injector, you may want to seek another provider to reverse the procedure.

Factors Affecting Hyaluronidase Costs

If you’re seeking hyaluronidase treatment from someone other than the injector who did your HA procedure, you’ll have to pay for it. Hyaluronidase costs depend on several factors:

  • The size of the treatment area
  • The nature of the filler results that need to be reversed
  • The patient’s facial anatomy
  • Other factors affecting how much hyaluronidase is needed
  • The geographic location and provider type — pricing for cosmetic treatments is market-driven

Hyaluronidase Costs vs. Dermal Filler Costs

How does the cost of hyaluronidase injections compare to the cost of dermal filler injections?

Recent facial fillers pricing data shows that hyaluronidase costs are similar to or slightly below costs for hyaluronic acid fillers, the most popular type of dermal filler. HA fillers cost between $300 and $1,000 per syringe, depending on the brand and formulation used.

Other types of filler treatments are more expensive. Radiesse® (calcium hydroxylapatite) costs about $1,500 per syringe, while Sculptra® (PLLA) costs about $2,000 per syringe. These types of fillers last longer than HA fillers, however.

Hyaluronidase Procedures — Process and What to Expect

Hyaluronidase works by breaking down the hyaluronic acid found in HA fillers. It’s injected by syringe during an in-office procedure that typically takes about 30 minutes.

If you’re working with a new injector, you may need to go through the full patient intake process again to rule out contraindications and ensure the procedure is right for you. This is usually accomplished during a pretreatment visit.

It doesn’t take long for hyaluronidase to dissolve HA fillers. Most patients see results within 24 hours. Virtually all see results within 7 to 10 days. Recovery time is minimal, though temporary side effects like swelling and redness at the injection site may persist for a few days afterward.

Finding Hyaluronidase Treatment

Hyaluronidase treatment is minimally invasive and is generally regarded as low risk. However, because hyaluronic acid naturally occurs in the body, hyaluronidase sometimes causes adverse reactions, including allergic reactions.

It’s best to work with an experienced injector who has completed a comprehensive dermal filler training course. If you’re comfortable working with the same injector who performed your original procedure, you’ll likely avoid paying out of pocket. Otherwise, look for a well-regarded plastic surgeon or medical aesthetician in your area.
