The duration of Dermal Filler treatments will range from 9 months to 18 months for the newer dermal fillers available. Other factors affecting the length of time associated with dermal filler injections include the amount injected, facial area injected, and product used. The FDA has determined that the treatment is temporary and then allows the manufacturer to put an average time interval to the area approved for injection and length of time. Typically, the newer HA Dermal Filler products that incorporates newer technologies to increase the product duration are more expensive and are specialized for specific uses. Dermal Fillers used in the lips or other highly vascularized areas may also have a reduced life span after injection.
Dermal Fillers that are used aesthetically are completely natural other than the lidocaine used to make the injection more comfortable. The most common type of dermal filler products used aesthetically are HA (hyaluronic acid) fillers which is bioidentical to the chemical structure of HA within the human body and thus is non-allergenic. Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a natural occurring chemical structure created by the human body throughout your lifetime and is contained in all soft tissues (skin, organs etc.) – as the human body ages we produce naturally less which creates indications of aging (laxity, density, and firmness). The second popular dermal filler product uses Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHa) which is also completely natural and is made from bone and teeth to stimulate collagen under the skin as well as plumping during the duration of the treatment.
The duration of dermal fillers after injection vary by product, facial area, and your own body in reabsorbing and breaking down of the dermal filler product. Most dermal filler treatments last at least 9 months and can last 18 months dependent upon the product and area injected. Concerning how often you need to get Dermal Fillers it is totally a personal choice as to when you feel that the aesthetic effect is beginning to wear off and start to see that the corrections created by your first treatment going away. Most physicians and practitioners will explain this in detail and to set patient expectations before administering dermal fillers and will give you guidelines and timing of the treatments that you can follow.
Dermal Fillers are indicated in adult patients age 18 to 65 years. Further indications rely on clinical assessment and prior history. There are very few relative and absolute contraindications in receiving treatment but as a rule anyone who is suffering from a medical at-risk condition should not receive these aesthetic dermal filler treatments. There are other contraindications to treatment but your Physician or Practitioner will review your health history prior to treatment.
Only licensed healthcare professionals can administer dermal fillers and state regulations and Medical Boards further define the scope of who and who cannot inject dermal fillers. All physicians if properly trained and certified can inject Dermal Fillers and in many states (not all) Nurse Practitioners may also be able to acquire and administer the product. Other licensed healthcare professionals such as nurses, physician assistants, and other licensed healthcare professionals need to work under the supervision and auspice of a Physician who may delegate these procedures to others. There are other restrictions placed by State Medical Societies for non-physicians and even Cosmetic Dentistry so it is always wise to ask these pertinent questions first. No non-licensed healthcare professional can administer Dermal Fillers in any of the 50 states.
Dermal Fillers are extremely safe it administered by a Physician, Nurse Practitioner, or Nurse if properly trained and certified by a legitimate medical training institution. It is extremely rare for individuals to have a medical complication associated with the procedure. Please note, it is always important for patients to ask whether the person is properly trained and certified and by which company. You-Tube and other on-line resources is not proper medical training.
